“Good fortune is what happens when opportunity meets with planning.” Thomas Edison
Our advisors are Certified Financial Plannerstm, and will work with you closely to determine the appropriate actions based on your unique situation.
“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results” – Benjamin Franklin
If you’re frustrated by your past experiences with investments or advisors, and are ready for a new approach, we’d love to talk with you about our philosophy.
Investment returns and investor returns are two different things.
We work with you to bridge the gap.
We founded Fort Henry Capital as an alternative to the traditional industry firm. We believe in working directly with our clients, in providing best in class services while controlling high fees, and acting as your trusted resource to navigate the unnecessarily complex financial waters.
We are an investment management and financial planning firm. Everything we do, is done in a way to align our interests with yours. Although we are located in Wheeling, WV, we currently work with clients in over 10 states across the country.
We believe that the financial services industry has done a poor job helping investors understand what truly matters. We work closely with you to help you tune out the noise, and focus on what truly matters to your financial future.
Our advisors work directly with you and your family on a proactive, ongoing basis, to help you achieve financial success. Acting as your Financial Advisor is our only business, and we’ve dedicated our careers to helping you and your family achieve your goals.
Wall Street firms, the financial media, and many in the financial services industry work to convince you that you must watch the markets every day, and rely on their advice and timing to be successful.
Thankfully, that simply isn’t true. Here are each of the areas we work with you to make your financial life successful:
After graduating with a degree in Economics, with minors in Finance and Political Science from Capital University, I moved back to West Virginia to begin my career as a Financial Advisor. After 7 years working as a commissioned broker for various bank programs, I transitioned to McKinley Investment Group. The firm grew and later transitioned to McKinley Carter Wealth Services.
Over those 15 years, I’ve worked as both a broker and as an advisor. I’ve been an employee, and worked closely with nearly all type of client and client situation. In 2007 I earned the Certified Financial Planner™ designation. After passing 5 exams that tested mastery in Investment Planning, Insurance & Financial Planning, Estate Planning, Tax Planning, and Retirement Planning, I sat for a 2 day, 10 hour comprehensive exam in which fewer than half of all applicants pass. Without question, this has provided me with more knowledge and experience for working with your financial situation than any other degree or certification could have.
With a strong background as an advisor, I always felt I could be of better service to my clients if I were both your advisor, as well as in charge of day to day operations. The buck didn’t always stop with me so to speak, and I thought that I could deliver superior advice and service on my own.
Like many of our clients, we do what we do so that we can take care of the truly important things in life. For me, that’s my 7 year old daughter Aubrey, and my wife of 13 years Christy. We are all lifelong residents of Wheeling, WV, and are happy to call this town home.
When I’m not working or spending time with family, you can usually spot me on the roads or trails of Wheeling training for one race or another. I started running in early 2010 to stay in shape through the winter for cycling, but found that I liked it a lot more. 3 years and 6 marathons later I’m still going.
From my early teens, I knew that I wanted to work in the investment industry in some capacity. In fact, I was able to convince my parents to take one day off per semester during my last two years of high school to spend the day with a friend of the family who was a stockbroker. From there, I attended Robert Morris College (now University) graduating cum laude with a degree in Finance and Economics.
My formal education includes programs such as the Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist Designation Program, the Certified Financial Planning Professional Program through the College for Financial Planning, and the Accredited Investment Fiduciary Training program at the Center for Fiduciary Studies. I attained my CFP® certification in 2005 and believe that this should serve as a prerequisite for being able to work directly with clients. However the best education that I continue to benefit from is the experience of working in this industry over the last fifteen years – and the desire to continue learning.
Through a lot of hard work, sacrifice, and some good fortune, I have been blessed to spend my career working with families to achieve their financial goals… and couldn’t imagine a more rewarding way to spend my days.
My wife Amanda and I have made our home in Wheeling and spend the bulk of our “free time” with our children Jack (8), Andrea (6), and Nicholas (3). If I can find time, I enjoy charcuterie, coaching youth sports, and being outdoors.
I became the Operations Assistant at Fort Henry Capital in July of 2014. Before that, I worked at the Sledd Company, in Wheeling, WV, for 17 years as their Accounts Receivable Manager. A valuable lesson that I have learned, from being an Accounts Receivable Manager, is to establish good relationships with your clients because not every solution fits every client.
I am a graduate of West Liberty University, and I’m currently enrolled at the College for Financial Planning, studying to become a Registered Paraplanner.
Originally from Moundsville, WV, I’ve made Wheeling my home. My husband, Donnie, is an Insurance Agent with Paree Insurance and he manages the St. Clairsville, OH office and we have two children: Ashley (15) and Austin (10) who keep us very busy. Outside of work, I’m a huge WV Mountaineer Fan and love to spend my summer days going fishing with my family.
